The ProECU Programming Kit can be used by car enthusiasts and owner clubs to both diagnose and program a wide variety of vehicles.
At its simplest, the programming kit can be used for diagnostics and datalogging. However, the kit's most impressive feature is to allow EcuTek Master Tuners to remotely tune customer vehicles. The Master Tuner supplies suitable ROM files to the vehicle owner. The customer can use the kit to program these ROM files into their own car. If any fine tuning is required, the customer can data log the car and send these logs to the Master Tuner, in order to assist with the tuning process.
FlashCAN Nissan GTR provides access to a wide range of calibration options for the OEM ECU, such as:

Live Data
ProECU Nissan GTR utilises and displays all the standard Nissan diagnostic parameters for both the Engine Control Module (ECM), and Transmission Control Module (TCM), as well as custom parameters using RaceROM feature enhancements. These can be logged and viewed using in-built datalogging facilities, providing even more information for tuning and diagnostics.
When connected to a car, ProECU Nissan GTR can offer real time data and map tracing. Map tracing shows, in real time, the areas of each map that are being read and used.
The following example data shows 33 out of approximately 90 live data parameters is available from the “Live Data” tab of the ROM file being accessed. This data is accessed directly from the Engine Control Module (ECM),in real time.
The below example shows the parameters that can be logged for the Transmission Control Module (TCM):

Map Switching for Fuel, Timing, VVT and Rev Limit
Map switching provides four distinct tuning calibrations which can be selected using the cruise control instruments even when the engine is running.
The calibrations provide individual Ignition, Fuel and Intake VVT maps for each. You can easily create a normal road tune, a higher power race tune, an E85 calibration and a high efficiency mode to work on a single ECU. You can use the map switch modes with all of the custom maps and speed density to toggle these features for specific modes.
Map switching also works with the RaceROM Custom Maps, allowing you to enable calibrations and compensations in specific modes. Several other factory ECU settings are available for switching as well:
- Engine rev limits
- Speed limits
- Boost target
High Resolution Maps
High Resolution Ignition, Fuel and Torque maps are available for each map switch mode. These maps are twice the size of the factory maps and provide up to 8000% higher resolution and axis scaling. By combining this with clever load rescaling we have achieved a level of superior interpolation and smoothness never before experienced with the GTR.
The four Ignition Timing maps now display timing before TDC (BTDC) rather than the standard GTR Ignition Adjustment system. These new maps work with the ECUs Dynamic Advance Knock Correction to provide a controlled amount of advance as well as knock retard when required.
Speed Density
The Speed Density (SD) feature changes the way the engine load is calculated. When SD mode is activated, the ECU will disregard the MAF sensor reading and will instead calculate mass airflow based on Engine Speed, Manifold Pressure and Air Temperature, this allows the MAF sensor to be removed, and a larger intake may then be fitted if desired.
Speed Density can be toggled in any map switch modes, and a hybrid MAF and Speed Density system can be implemented to aid accurate readings at low speed and provide maximum calibration at high power levels. A range of activation options are available for Engine Speed, Mass Air Flow or Manifold Pressure.
Launch Control
The RaceROM Launch Control feature enables the latest Nissan Launch Control strategy. It also allows the driver to adjust the launch RPM dynamically using the cruise control switches to ensure the perfect launch.
RaceROM Launch Control uses closed loop feedback to provide Boost Off the Line (BOTL) to create more power to get the right launch every time.
Custom Maps
RaceROM Custom Maps allow the tuner to modify the behaviour of the factory ECU by inserting additional maps into the ECU’s nomal calculations for parameters such as ignition timing, fuel, boost & VVT, and even repurpose inputs and outputs to measure custom sensors or solenoids not featured on the standard vehicle.
This facility lets you add custom compensations or even completely replace the calculations that are normally used. For example:
- Per gear fuel enrichment factor.
- Vechicle speed based ignition retard.
- Torque reduction for engine oil temperature.
- Throttle reduction for airflow.
- Torque reduction for wheel speed differential.
- E85 enrichment factor for injection volume.
- Custom traction control strategies for wheel speed differential.
RaceROM Custom Maps also you to repurpose an input sensor and actuator output allowing you to control devices not provided by the manufacturer such as a wastegate purge solenoid or intercooler spray pump, or read data from a custom sensor such as charge air temperature or ethanol content (flex-fuel) sensors.
This map is a custom ignition compensation for Engine Speed and Manifold Pressure.
Entire functions can be created by linking maps together such as:
- Boost control and wastegate duty feedback by repurposing the Carbon Purge Canister valve to act as a boost control solenoid.
- Enrichment factor for E85 content by connecting a flex-fuel sensor in place of the Carbon Purge Canister pressure sensor.
Each of the custom maps can be logged and viewed using ProECU log viewer.
Flex Fuel
The RaceROM Flex Fuel system provides calibration options to import an ethanol content sensor to the factory ECU and allows custom compensations based on the percentage of ethanol in the fuel system. This is done automatically and requires no user intervention once the system has been calibrated correctly, you don’t need to switch maps or have a separate tune. You just get in the car, fill it up, and drive.
The Flex Fuel import is used in conjunction with the RaceROM Custom Maps system to allow a greater range of calibration options. The maps can be used to increase the desired fuel quantity to make sure the engine runs correctly, it can increase boost or advance ignition timing to make the most of the knock supressing quality of ethanol fuels.
Valet Mode
To give the car owner piece of mind when putting their car into somebody else’s care, Valet mode is a low performance mode with limited torque, speed and range. Valet mode can only be turned off via a secret PIN number entered using the cruise control buttons and coolant temp display.
It can also be used as an anti-theft device, as it can limit the range that the car can travel when Valet Mode is enabled.
Visual Knock Warning
These features overcome the limitation of the factory ECU and allow higher boost levels to be set, in order to achieve increased power and torque, while still retaining the precise control and safety of Nissan’s advanced boost control system. Furthermore, the boost gauge on the multifunction display can be rescaled to accurately display these higher boost levels.
Boost Gauge Display
RaceROM provides additional parameters to alter the boost gauge display to show greater boost levels and for the graph to wrap around when it increases past the end of the original graph.
To view the other available RaceROM Features, please use the menu to the right entitled RaceROM Features.
16-bit Boost Limit and High Boost Target Maps
These features overcome the limitation of the factory ECU and allow higher boost levels to be set, in order to achieve increased power and torque, while still retaining the precise control and safety of Nissan’s advanced boost control system. Furthermore, the boost gauge on the multifunction display can be rescaled to accurately display these higher boost levels.
Per-gear Boost Control
Per gear boost control allows separate boost calibrations for each gear, thereby maximising boost control options and flexibility. For example, boost may be reduced in 1st gear to prevent wheel spin, but raised in 3rd-6th for increased performance.
Per-gear Rev Limits
This feature allows per gear rev limits to be configured. It could be used to improve 0-60 times by allowing a higher 2nd gear limit to just hit 60 mph / 100 km/h in 2nd, whilst preserving the lower rev limit in other gears.
MAF Left-Right Swap for custom intercoolers
Several aftermarket intercoolers switch the intake plumbing in relation to the standard intercooler. This switches the input from the MAF sensors to ensure correct fuelling to each bank of the engine.
Large Fuel Injector Support
Injectors over 750cc are not supported by the original ECU as standard. This enhancement allows the use of almost any size of injector.
Extra Parameter Logging
GTR RaceROM enables ProECU tuning software to measure & record extra diagnostic parameters not accessable as standard, such as:
- AFR per bank
- Boost Error
- Boost Target
- Calculated Airflow
- Calculated Torque
- Desired Wastegate
- Engine load per bank
- Gear
- Injector duty per bank
- Knock correction
- Mass Air Flow per bank
- Turbo Dynamics
- Wastegate
- Visual knock warning – Shows a visual warning of knock using the dashboard’s check engine light.
Over 90 custom parameters are available for the GTR ECM, including the ouput and calculation values used by Custom Maps.
Upshift Boost Spike Prevention
When the vehicle shifts into a higher gear under full throttle, the sudden reduction in engine RPM can cause a momentary but substantial increase in boost pressure. This can be a particular problem on vehicles with larger turbos running at high boost pressures. The spike prevention feature detects when this is likely to occur and opens the wastegate for a fraction of a second to prevent the spike from forming and ensure a steady and consistent level of boost.

Nissan GTR – TCM Tools
The Nissan GTR TCM Tools allows for adjustment of the Transmission Control Module (TCM).
How it works
Clutch Gear Learning - This process will initiate the TCM ECU to self calibrate the clutch pressure, clutch touch points along with pump and solenoid duty learning.
Clutch Touch Points - These touch points are the actual engagement point of the clutch plates to connect the engine crankshaft drive to the input shaft of the gearbox.
Clutch Pressure - The Clutch pressures are applied for each clutch: Clutch A (even gears 2-4-6) and clutch B (odd gears 1-3-5). Raising the clutch pressure values will give a more positive pull away and gear change, reducing these values will encourage clutch slip along with a smoother pull away with smooth undetectable gear changes. On high power vehicles these pressures should be increased to minimise torque slip on gear changes.
Read Clutch Temps – This will display the maximum clutch temps that have been achieved.
Read Oil Temp History – This will show the Oil Temp history including frequency of oil temp.
Read Warning History – This will display any protection thresholds that have been triggered.
Clear Warning History – This will clear the TCM warning history.
Reset Clutch Adjustment – These will clear and reset all current Clutch Capacity or Touchpoints.
Nissan GTR – ABS Tools
